Genital Wart
Treatment Information
Genital warts, human papilloma virus, HPV are
all synonymous for a sexually transmitted disease, STD that has a wart
like appearance on both male and female genitalia.
Genital warts may
eventually develop a fleshy, small raised growth that looks like
cauliflower. There is no way to predict whether the warts will grow or
disappear. Therefore, if you suspect you have genital warts, you
should be examined and treated, if necessary.
Genital warts should be treated with a prescription medication,
such as, Aldara or they may develop into a fleshy raised growth that
depending on the region can grow into a 2-5 centimeter lesion. There is no way to predict
how fast or large the genital wart will grow. Therefore, if you suspect you have genital warts,
you should seek treatment, immediately.
Depending on factors such as the size and location
of the genital warts, a physician will offer you one of several
ways to treat genital warts:
Prescription Medications for Genital Wart
Treatment:
Prescription medications for the treatment of
genital warts remain the most popular genital wart treatment. The
most prescribed prescription genital wart treatment is Aldara, this
genital wart treatment medication is a cream that applied to
the actual genital wart
(for

Additional Genital Wart Treatment Options:
If you have small warts, the physician can remove
them by freezing (cryosurgery), burning (electrocautery), or laser
treatment. Occasionally, the physician will have to use surgery
to remove large warts that have not responded to other treatment.
Some physicians use the antiviral drug alpha interferon, which they
inject directly into the warts, to treat warts that have returned
after removal by traditional means. The drug is expensive, however,
and does not reduce the rate that the genital warts return.
Treatments that focus on emotional and psychological factors have
been shown to be effective in reducing or eliminating outbreaks
of warts
Genital Wart Research
Scientists are doing research on two types of HPV vaccines. One
type would be used to prevent infection or disease (warts or pre-cancerous
tissue changes). The other type would be used to treat cervical
cancers. Researchers are testing both types of vaccines in people.
